When I view this video found on https://www.facebook.com/fierytales.us/videos/1614565478637527/ I smile...this is exactly one of the many reasons why I feel so passionate about this book. It's not just MY book, it's a story that can be shared with many. In this video, a monolingual Spanish speaking grandmother is reading the story side by side with her monolingual English speaking granddaughter. The little girl not being bilingual is another story, which I CANNOT judge. W
Yesterday was Christmas Day, we spent it eating left overs, watching lots of movies and just relaxing. That's pretty much how all of our Christmas holidays have been spent, as far as I can recall. You see in Peru we celebrate on Christmas Eve. I believe most Latino/ Hispanic households do. We drink hot chocolate, eat panetone (except I don't like this one bit...fake fruit and raisins...actually I can do the fake fruit but raisins- NO SIR). We have our special dinner that
I woke up this morning and reflected on my blessings. I text a friend of mine and told her my #1 goal today was to check in to the nail salon and finish buying the fellas' stocking stuffers...which by the way is not easy. They're older now and so cute little Leggo characters, or castle pieces do not go well. I have to be creative so I will hit the gadget store at the mall. I forgot the name of it, but I'll find it. Then I thought about the kids that live in the poverty m
Honestly, truthfully I don't really love this time of year...like I used to. It used to be my mami's favorite holiday. That says a lot because she really liked all of them, mostly because it meant we would all get together. I remember the days I used to drive up to my parents' home in Florida. She would literally, physically run to the driveway. She would be screaming with excitement. Her face would be so lit up with love and happiness. I don't think an average queen g
Let's see ... how do you spend your Sundays. Today I woke up and heard my sister, dad and nephew moving about, getting ready to leave for Florida. I went downstairs and they were packing the car. I hugged and kissed all of them. Then I made a few cups of cafe c/leche for myself and 2 girlfriends who had come to the book publishing party from out of town too. We took a few minutes to catch up. Then I hugged and waved goodbye as they drove off. I ran upstairs to my bedro
The books are finally here... yes, this was my huge stresser last Wednesday. Geez! If you know me at all, you will know I am a planner to the upteenth degree. (Is upteenth a word? bwa ha ha!! I know it's not). Anyways... They're here. I'm happy. The case bound books will not be here until Monday. I'm not 100% thrilled about that, but I'll take the ones I have. Oh and of course it snowed today.
The number one question this week has been, "What's the attire for Saturday? The answer is winter chic- which is layers but in reality PLEASE come as you are. I'm super excited and cannot wait to see each of you!!!!!!!! 3,585 Miles to be an American Girl. I've received lots of love and support, I really appreciate it.
Nothing like giving a younger you some advice. This month is kinda hard for me...it's the month my mom passed away. It's also the month I think my mom loved the most. She loved Christmas, it was family time. She decorated the house and cooked everyone's favorite dishes. I miss her desperately.
