What does it take to get your book published?
That's a question I get a lot! Oh but before I commence, please let me wish you a Happy, Prosperous, Loving, Forgiving, and Kinder New Year!!!
Now back to our regularly scheduled inquiry... Well first and foremost, I want you to know that your first draft will most likely be a bad reflection of the finished product. In most cases, not all, the technical erros are terrible and it's not just an opinion from an educator. So the first piece of advice is to read your first draft and start evaluating the technical errors. Check out the grammar and spelling and revise as needed. The famous writer Hemingway once said, "The first draft of anything is sh--." meaning that all drafts are not the final product. Big publishing companies receive 5,000 drafts, on average, and will publish 5-10 of those received. So the second piece of advice is to learn about other options to publish your book. The options are Traditional Publishing, Self-Publishing and Hybrid Publishing. Hybrid Publishing is what I focus on, 1010 Publishing LLC is a small, new company which incorporates some traditional variables such as royalties paid to the author, but differs from big traditional publishing companies in the sense that you will pay a fee upfront to have services rendered.
Other attributes publishing should consider are the original content. It is unlikely that a publishing company will be interested in your writing is closely aligned to another popular book, for example Harry Potter.
If you are interested in publishing your writing, make sure you RESEARCH and decide which venue you are going to take. After doing so, make sure you have READ & REVISED your initial draft.
