Time to get your submissions in!

Happy April 2021! Okay let's cut the chase and talk about what's on your mind. As you may or may not know, 1010 Publishing is a fairly new publishing house. We are on our 3rd year and we are accepting manuscripts from March 1 - August 1. To be totally transparent, we kicked off our venture into publishing for several reasons: 1) One I'm an author and wanted more control of what I wanted to see in my first book, "3,585 MILES TO BE AN AMERICAN GIRL"- you see I knew what I wanted the characters to look like and I didn't want the title changed because like most writers this is my story. Second of all, I saw and researched that there weren't enough diversity in authors or books period. In addition, I wanted to focus on releasing books in a bilingual format. I am a native Spanish speaker, but I wanted other cultures and languages represented too.

As we launched we were blessed with a few authors who were willing to take that plunge with us, they invested in us. We published their books and that catupulted us into who we are today. Yes, we are still small and have a limited staff plus a limited budget, but we continue with our same principles and goals. Now we are able to offer publishing contracts like any other publishing house. We are proud of that. Our first year we received less than 30 manuscripts, counting some that I might not even consider a manuscript for many reasons...but that is not here nor there. Our second year we received close to 300 manuscripts, and now on our third year and our second month we have received over 30 manuscripts to date.

Today I want to talk to you about submitting your manuscript. As I shared we are receiving a lot of manuscript submissions. Here's a surprise... around 50% of the authors who send their manuscripts make simple errors that drastically reduce their chances of being published. The first step is to RESEARCH publishers. Follow agents and publishing houses on social media, Twitter is quite popular for writers. Go to their website and look up their books, maybe even purchase one or two to see the quality. Get to know them after all you are interested in becoming part of their literary family. Read publishing magazines, attend writing workshops, and connect with writing communities in your area. Again--- RESEARCH.

Then you need to make sure you are keeping track of your research. Write down what you learn from each and when their submission window is. Note the pluses and minuses for each, this will help you narrow down your choices. This task will also come in handy as you narrow down your personal choices. For example, 1010 Publishing is open to varied genres, will release all literary works in a bilingual format (or dual language if applicable), and welcomes novice writers. We love diverse stories, whether that's based on physical ability, gender, culture, language, race, ethnicity, etc. We want to help everyone embrace the world we live in.

An important step prior to submitting your manuscript is to have a professional editor review it. Manuscripts that have an abundance of grammatical errors are hard to follow and disengage the team quickly, especially if there are hundreds to review. You just don't want to fall into that category.

When you're ready, make sure you personalize your cover letter and follow instructions provided by the publisher. Many publishing houses follow up within four weeks of receipt and some go above and beyond by personalizing the response to you. I will admit we are nowhere near there- but it is a goal for us. We will send an email acknowledging receipt of your work just so you don't worry that we didn't receive it.

I hope this helps you. Remember to stay in touch with us and we wish you the very best in all of your literary works dreams and goals.

Before wrapping this up, we would like to welcome you to our website and encourage you to help us grow both on social media and in your community. We would love to have our authors engage with readers via author talks and pre-recorded messages. Don't forget we have discount offers for order purchases of a title, you will have inquire via email 1010PublishingUS@gmail.com

Abrazos,

Nury
