Guess what? You do not have accept every argument you're invited to!

Recently I spoke to a young person about this topic. It seems that this young person is consistently finding herself in arguments with others. I only because get this, she posts it on social media. Okay I know that's the number one mistake. Personally I'm not really friends with too many young people on social media or real life. Not that I don't like young people, it's just that I don't have too many similar interests with them. For one, I'm working on retirement and they are just working. Secondly, my kids are getting ready to make me an empty nester and they are just starting their families. So you get the picture. Anyway, this young person is my belated mom's friend's daughter. She really is not a teen or anything and actually she has her own children...but you wouldn't know it by reading her posts. I don't see her posts as much as she's engaged in social media, mostly because I don't follow her. The ones I do see are the ones other family or friends comment on.

If I could give this young lady advice, it would be, "Guess what? You don't have to accept every argument you're invited to." I mean really, why argue with people just to argue? Why allow someone else to rattle you so badly that you no longer act like a lady? I wish her mom was on social media and saw these posts. Maybe she would tell her to stop and she would stop. I really would tell her mom except I think it would break her heart. That's why I try to stay away from that.

I think that if you stand for something and you are defending that stance, then yes you should voice your opinion intelligently, without name calling or using derogary terms. You should do so by using logic and sharing how you feel. At the end of the day, just because you're the loudest it doesn't mean you're right or even close to right. Besdies there's been research to note that most people who argue do not listen to facts, they listen to emotion.

At the end of the day, who has time to argue. Pick your battles. Everyone is not worth your time or energy. Be happy and ignore those that try to pull you into something that will end up making you feel the opposite.
