10 Questions to get to know Diep


Diep, you are a creative artist. This book is a collaboration of your personal journey and Nury’s input into a beautiful story. Answer these questions as detailed as possible. Our readers will want to get to know you.

1. Where do you get your ideas?

I get my ideas from old pictures and stories that my sister told me and images I’ve seen about “The Boat People.”

2. What is your creative process like?

I love to doodle and sketch my art ideas and then I use photoshop or any other medium to help me paint my picture.

3. What advice do you have for other artists?

Do what you love and make it unique to you. Be authentic and have a love for it.

4. What is your creative Kryptonite?

I have 2 little kids, so time is so hard to find to complete my artwork/ art pieces. I have

so many unfinished artwork that I wanted to complete, but kids and family come first.

5. What other artists are you friends with, and how do they help you become a better artist? I connect with art teachers, creative friends on facebook and in person; I look at

artbooks, prints, social media for ideas and inspirations.

6. If you could tell your younger self anything, what would it be?

Do it, pursue it, chase it; live and let live and put your heart into your art. Make it happen. Express your art in any shape and form.

7. Are you currently working on other art pieces?

I have paper collages, acrylic paintings, sculptures and wood-burnings, etches and so many things I want to do.

8. What does success look like to you?

Success is seeing your work take flight. You make money from your art and I am enjoying what I like to do.

9. Tell us about your thoughts on having bilingual books accessible to children.

I encourage bilingual books. Kids need to see themselves being represented in stories and books and if they can read it in both languages, that’s awesome! I grew up not seeing many bilingual books.

10. Is there anything else you’d like readers to know about you?

I am always been called “The Renaissance Man” a jack-of-all-trades, but a master at none. I truly want to believe that, but I am my own “Working-art-in-progress.” I use lots of medium.

I can almost to any types of art. I sing, play guitar, draw, paint, play sports etc. I use want to make use of my God-given “gifts” and make life enjoyable for me and for all!
